چکیده
Abstract Introduction American adults are typically sleep deprived during weekdays and attempt to recover on the weekends. Technological advances in home monitoring have provided opportunity analyze patterns a scale much larger than previously imaginable. This study explores weekly REM deprivation–recovery cycle large U.S. sample. Methods Estimated total time (TST) REM/TST (R%) were analyzed by commercially-available home-sleep-monitoring device (Sleeptracker-AI Monitor, Fullpower Technologies, California, USA). The passively monitors using piezo-electric sensors that register forces exerted through mattress. de-identified data from devices following review exemption of (#57681) Stanford University IRB. Data 07/2020–06/2021, 101,442 individuals with 14,277,964 recorded nights, available. analytic dataset included at least 300 nights per year 26 52 each day week (excluding abutting federal holidays). Results A 21,543 (11,095 men, 51±14 years; 9,821 women, 50±15 627 unspecified genders) 6,850,717 met inclusion criteria. Each statistic, when compared previous week, was significant (p < 0.05/7, Bonferroni corrected) paired t-test (denoted an asterisk). Conclusion use advanced technology estimate sleep-wake sample permits validation repetitive cycle. Individuals are, average, partially starting which leads progressive rebound transitions into recovery nights. Further work will focus studying this within different groups (e.g., age, gender), across seasons, including other parameters. Support (If Any)

Is the nonREM-REM sleep cycle reset by forced awakenings from REM sleep?
In selective REM sleep deprivation (SRSD), the occurrence of stage REM is repeatedly interrupted by short awakenings. Typically, the interventions aggregate in clusters resembling the REM episodes in undisturbed sleep. This salient phenomenon can easily be explained if the nonREM-REM sleep process is continued during the periods of forced wakefulness. However, earlier studies have alternatively...
متن کاملRecent Developments in Home Sleep-Monitoring Devices
Improving our understanding of sleep physiology and pathophysiology is an important goal for both medical and general wellness reasons. Although the gold standard for assessing sleep remains the laboratory polysomnogram, there is an increasing interest in portable monitoring devices that provide the opportunity for assessing sleep in real-world environments such as the home. Portable devices al...

Although repeated selective rapid eye movement (REM) sleep deprivation by awakenings during nighttime has shown that the number of sleep interruptions required to prevent REM sleep increases within and across consecutive nights, the underlying regulatory processes remained unspecified. To assess the role of circadian and homeostatic factors in REM sleep regulation, REM sleep was selectively dep...

STUDY OBJECTIVES Sleep onset (SO) is cognitively and physiologically similar to rapid eye movement (REM) sleep, supporting the notion that REM sleep-related processes are 'covertly' active at this time. The objective was to determine if SO mentation is sensitive to REM sleep deprivation. DESIGN Two-group cross-sectional design; sleep recordings for 3 nights. SETTING Standard sleep laborator...

background and objective: Hypocretins (orexins) are recently discovered neuropeptides that are produced in a very restricted area of the lateral hypothalamus. These peptides were originally associated with feeding behavior, but have come to be viewed as essential in causing narcolepsy and regulating sleep. Narcolepsy is a sleep disorder associated with REM sleep abnormalities, and it is likely ...
